
Pekanbaru, February 27, 2026 — The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Riau (FISIP UNRI), held a Workshop on Strengthening International Funding Acquisition Strategies to Support the Implementation of SDGs at the Study Program Level on Friday (27/2), at the Meeting Room of the FISIP UNRI Lecturer Building. The event was attended by faculty leaders, heads and secretaries of departments, study program coordinators, and laboratory managers within the FISIP UNRI environment.
The workshop aimed to enhance the understanding and capacity of the academic community in accessing international funding opportunities to support the implementation of academic programs, research, and community service activities aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
In his opening remarks, the Dean of FISIP UNRI, Dr. Mezyi Heriyanto, S.Sos., M.Si., emphasized the importance of well-planned and collaborative strategies in securing international funding. According to him, global financial support is one of the key factors in strengthening the role of higher education institutions in delivering tangible impacts to society, while also driving the achievement of the Main Performance Indicators (IKU) 4, 5, 6, 7, and 9 under the Impact-Oriented Higher Education Performance Framework (Diktisaintek Berdampak).

Universities do not only serve as centers of education and research, but must also act as agents of change that contribute directly to the achievement of the SDGs. Through this activity, we also seek to promote the achievement of IKU 4, 5, and 6 concerning lecturers’ talent and innovation in gaining world-class international recognition, as well as IKU 7 related to higher education institutions’ involvement in the implementation of the SDGs. Therefore, strengthening capacity in accessing international funding is highly strategic to ensure that the innovative programs we design can be implemented sustainably,” said Dr. Mezyi.

The workshop was moderated by Dr. Baskoro Wicaksono, S.IP., M.IP., who guided the discussions in a systematic and interactive manner, enabling participants to comprehensively understand the materials delivered by the speakers.

As the first speaker, the Head of the Department of International Relations, FISIP UNRI, Dr. Yusnarida Eka Nizmi, M.Si., presented strategies for identifying international grant opportunities and highlighted the importance of mapping global issues relevant to the SDGs. She also emphasized the importance of tagging activities that have been successfully implemented and funded by Eurasia Foundation (from Asia) as part of documentation, evaluation, and institutional track record strengthening in managing internationally funded programs.


Meanwhile, the second speaker, Tarmizi, S.H., M.H., Coordinator of FITRA Riau, shared practical experiences in managing internationally funded programs, particularly those oriented toward strengthening governance, community empowerment, and sustainable development. He stressed the importance of transparency, accountability, and alignment with community needs as added value in funding proposals.


The workshop proceeded dynamically through material presentations, in-depth discussions, and question-and-answer sessions moderated by the moderator. Participants were also equipped with technical strategies for preparing proposals aligned with the priorities of international donor programs.



Through this activity, FISIP UNRI reaffirmed its commitment to continuously strengthening adaptive, innovative, and impact-oriented academic governance, in line with the vision of Universitas Riau to become a globally competitive university that actively contributes to sustainable development.
