Strengthening Collective Participation: National Education Day 2026 Calls for Quality Education for All

Pekanbaru — The commemoration of National Education Day (Hardiknas) 2026 was solemnly held within the campus environment of the University of Riau (UNRI) on Saturday, May 2, 2026. The ceremony was attended by the entire academic community as a reflection of a shared commitment to realizing quality and inclusive education.

Serving as the Ceremony Leader, Prof. Dr. Hermandra, M.A., Vice Rector for Student Affairs and Alumni, led the event with discipline and enthusiasm. The ceremony included the raising of the Indonesian Red and White flag and the delivery of the national address from the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, Prof. Brian Yuliarto, who emphasized that education is not merely about classrooms, books, or numbers, but rather a strategic medium for addressing the complex challenges faced by the nation. He highlighted that cross-sector collaboration among the government, society, families, businesses, universities, and communities is the key to building quality and equitable education.

“Education is not merely a place for learning, but the heart of civilization that sparks inspiration and collaboration for the future of the nation.”

The event continued with the presentation of the Satyalancana honorary awards as a form of state appreciation for Civil Servants (ASN) and educators who have demonstrated extraordinary dedication in serving the nation and the state. The Satyalancana Karya Satya award was presented to 175 civil servants who have continuously served for 10, 20, or 30 years in accordance with the government’s honorary award regulations. Satyalancana is one of Indonesia’s highest honorary distinctions awarded by the President of the Republic of Indonesia in recognition of long-standing service and dedication in public service and education.

On the occasion, the Dean of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) at the University of Riau, Dr. Meyzi Heriyanto, S.Sos., M.Si., stated that Hardiknas 2026 was not merely a ceremonial commemoration, but also a momentum to strengthen collaboration among all education stakeholders from the local to the national level.

“Quality education can only be achieved when all elements — from teachers, lecturers, and students to the wider community — move together to advance the intellectual life of the nation,” said Dr. Meyzi.

The series of Hardiknas 2026 activities at UNRI reflected the spirit of togetherness, collaboration, and a strong commitment to improving the quality of education for all levels of society. (RIRY)
