Drafting a Research Roadmap: FISIP UNRI Encourages Academic Collaboration and Innovation

Pekanbaru, 24 November 2025 — The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Riau (FISIP UNRI), held a Workshop on the Development of a Research and Community Service Roadmap at the Royal Asnof Hotel starting at 08:00 AM WIB. This activity serves as a strategic step to strengthen the implementation of the university’s tridharma, particularly in formulating research and service directions that are more focused, measurable, and sustainable in accordance with societal needs and scientific developments.

The workshop is part of efforts to improve academic governance in line with higher education quality standards. Through this forum, the faculty aims to produce a roadmap document that can serve as a reference for all study programs in determining flagship research agendas, priority community service themes, and directions for cross-disciplinary collaboration.

The Dean of FISIP UNRI, Dr. Meyzi Heriyanto, S.Sos., M.Si., officially opened the event and emphasized the importance of the roadmap as a strategic tool to ensure consistent and impactful academic direction. He stressed that the roadmap is not merely an administrative requirement, but an instrument to optimize FISIP’s contribution in responding to social issues and regional development dynamics.
“This research and community service roadmap is not just a formal document, but a compass that guides FISIP in actively contributing to regional development and the advancement of social and political sciences.”

The main presentation was delivered by the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, Dr. Auradian Marta, S.IP., M.A., moderated by Meris Essio Mento, M.IP. In his presentation, Dr. Auradian explained the concept of developing a roadmap, its alignment with quality indicators, and strategies for implementation at the study program level. He highlighted the importance of mapping strategic issues, identifying lecturer potential, and planning long-term research that supports the faculty’s vision.
“Developing a roadmap ensures that each study program has a clear, measurable, and mutually reinforcing research direction. This improves academic quality and better prepares FISIP for accreditation processes as well as national academic competition,” he added.

The workshop was attended by members of the faculty leadership, Vice Dean for Finance and General Affairs Dr. Mayarni, S.Sos., M.Si., the Head of the General Affairs Division, the Pokja Team Leader, Department Chairs, Study Program Coordinators, and the final project guideline drafting team. The participation of lecturers and academic stakeholders strengthened collaboration in building a more structured research and service system. Discussions were active, particularly regarding the development of flagship research themes, quality assurance mechanisms, publication strategies, and the expansion of external partnerships.

Following the presentation session, workshop participants drafted initial roadmaps for their respective study programs by mapping scientific competencies, lecturer resources, and research opportunities that could be integrated into the faculty-wide roadmap.

Through the development of a data-based and collaborative roadmap, FISIP UNRI hopes to strengthen its contribution to producing excellent research and community service programs that are relevant and impactful for society. The faculty also aims to enhance its academic reputation at the regional and national levels through more directed research priorities and consistent, sustainable implementation of the tridharma.
