Preparing Students for the World of Work, FISIP UNRI Intensifies Micro-Credential Program

Pekanbaru, January 26, 2026 – The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) of Universitas Riau held a Socialization of the Micro-Credential Program for students in the fourth semester and above on Monday (26/1/2026). The event took place in the DPH Meeting Room, 2nd Floor of the FISIP UNRI Dean’s Building, and was also attended online via Zoom by representatives of departments and study programs, as well as students within the FISIP community.

The socialization was attended directly by the Dean of FISIP UNRI, Dr. Meyzi Heriyanto, S.Sos., M.Si, the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs Dr. Auradian Marta, S.IP., MA, the Vice Dean for Finance and General Affairs Dr. Mayarni, S.Sos., M.Si, heads of departments, study program coordinators, and other invited guests.

In his opening remarks, Dean Dr. Meyzi Heriyanto stated that the Micro-Credential Program is a form of learning innovation that is highly relevant to current student needs. He emphasized that students are not only required to possess academic competence in the classroom, but also need to be equipped with specific, adaptive, and practical skills that are recognized through short-term certifications or competency acknowledgments.

This Micro-Credential Program presents a great opportunity for students to enrich their competencies beyond the core curriculum. It aligns with the spirit of Merdeka Belajar, which encourages more flexible, contextual learning that meets the needs of the world of work,” he said.

Furthermore, the Dean expressed hope that through the active role of departments and study programs, information about this program can be widely disseminated to students, so that student participation in micro-credential programs at FISIP can run optimally.

On the same occasion, the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, Dr. Auradian Marta, presented a detailed explanation of the implementation mechanism of the Micro-Credential Program, ranging from the registration scheme, the types of activities students can participate in, to the recognition of these activities within the academic system. He explained that students in the fourth semester and above have significant opportunities to join the program as part of strengthening additional competencies that can be integrated with the learning outcomes of each study program.

We encourage heads of departments and study program coordinators to actively inform students and assist with the technical mentoring process, so that students not only become aware of this program, but also truly make use of it,” he explained.

This socialization serves as an initial step for FISIP UNRI in ensuring academic and administrative readiness to support the implementation of the Micro-Credential Program, while also strengthening the faculty’s commitment to providing adaptive, innovative learning oriented toward enhancing student competitiveness.
