Pekanbaru, November 10, 2025 — Universitas Riau (UNRI) solemnly commemorated Heroes’ Day 2025 with a ceremony held in front of the Rectorate Building. Carrying the theme “My Hero, My Role Model: Keep Moving Forward to Continue the Struggle,” the event was attended by all elements of the academic community, including university leaders, faculty deans, lecturers, education staff, and students.

On behalf of the Rector, UNRI’s Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Dr. Mexsasai Indra, S.H., M.H., delivered the official message from the Minister of Social Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia. In his address, he emphasized that today’s struggle is no longer fought on the battlefield, but through knowledge, honesty, and real contributions to national progress.

“Today’s struggle is not fought with bamboo spears, but with knowledge, integrity, and innovation. The spirit of our heroes must live on in every step and act of service we take.”
Dr. Mexsasai also highlighted the important role of higher education institutions in carrying forward the ideals of independence. Universities, he said, are the birthplace of intelligent, ethical, and change-driven generations who can shape the future of the nation.
“The values of struggle, sacrifice, and sincerity shown by our heroes should inspire our work and dedication at Universitas Riau,” he added.
Dean of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) Universitas Riau, Dr. Meyzi Heriyanto, S.Sos., M.Si., in a voice interview, expressed his appreciation for the event as a tangible effort by the university to foster nationalism and unity.
“Heroes’ Day serves as a reminder for all of us—especially the younger generation—to emulate the spirit of struggle and selfless dedication. Each of us has our own way of continuing the heroes’ fight through our respective roles,” said Dr. Meyzi.
The ceremony proceeded solemnly, featuring tributes to fallen heroes, the reading of messages of struggle, and reflections on the values of heroism that stirred pride among all participants.
Through this commemoration, Universitas Riau reaffirmed its commitment to carrying forward the spirit of the nation’s founders through the implementation of the tridharma of higher education—education, research, and community service. The theme “My Hero, My Role Model: Keep Moving Forward to Continue the Struggle” serves as a reminder that the spirit of heroism must continue to live on through the works and dedication of every member of the academic community.
