Taking Steps Toward Higher Education, FISIP UNRI Welcomes a Visit from SMK Negeri 2 Pinggir, Bengkalis

Pekanbaru — The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Riau (FISIP UNRI), welcomed a visit from SMK Negeri 2 Pinggir, Bengkalis Regency, on Monday, 15 December 2025. The activity, held in the DPH Meeting Room on the second floor of the FISIP UNRI Dean’s Building, was part of an effort to introduce the world of higher education to vocational high school students at an early stage.

The delegation from SMK Negeri 2 Pinggir was received by the leadership and management of FISIP UNRI, consisting of the Vice Dean for Finance and General Affairs, the Vice Dean for Student Affairs, Alumni, and Cooperation, the Head of the General Affairs Division, as well as the Heads of Working Groups (Pokja). Meanwhile, the school delegation was led by the Head of the Accounting Department, accompanied by teachers and attended by twelfth-grade female students of the Accounting Department.

The Vice Dean for Finance and General Affairs of FISIP Universitas Riau, Dr. Mayarni, S.Sos., M.Si., in her remarks, expressed her appreciation for the visit. She emphasized that FISIP UNRI is committed to supporting the enhancement of students’ insight and readiness in facing higher education. According to her, early exposure to higher education plays a strategic role in building learning motivation, helping students determine their educational direction, and preparing more mature academic planning. Through this activity, students are expected to gain an initial overview of the lecture system, available study programs, as well as various academic and non-academic development opportunities within the campus environment.

Furthermore, the Vice Dean for Student Affairs, Alumni, and Cooperation of FISIP Universitas Riau, Dr. Saiman, S.IP., M.Si., in his remarks emphasized the importance of mental readiness and self-development for students in facing the world of higher education. He explained that FISIP UNRI not only focuses on academic development but also places great emphasis on student development, strengthening soft skills, and nurturing students’ interests and talents through various student organizations and activities. In addition, FISIP UNRI actively builds alumni networks and cooperation with various parties as provisions for students in entering the workforce or continuing their education to higher levels. He expressed his hope that this visit would serve as a source of inspiration for students to plan their educational future in a more directed and confident manner.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Accounting Department of SMK Negeri 2 Pinggir, Syafwan, expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome extended by FISIP UNRI. According to him, the visit provided significant benefits for students, particularly in broadening their knowledge, becoming familiar with the campus atmosphere, and fostering interest in pursuing higher education.

Throughout the activity, students received presentations on the profile of FISIP UNRI, available study programs, the learning system, as well as academic and student support facilities. The activity was also complemented by an active discussion and question-and-answer session, allowing students to obtain information directly from the faculty representatives.

After the presentation session, the student delegation was invited to tour the FISIP UNRI campus to directly observe various facilities supporting academic activities, such as lecture rooms, academic services, and other supporting facilities. This activity provided a real experience of life and activities within the higher education environment.

In addition to serving as an educational platform, the visit also functioned as a means of strengthening ties and enhancing relations between secondary education institutions and higher education institutions. FISIP UNRI hopes that similar activities can continue to be carried out as a form of contribution to improving the quality of human resources in Riau Province.

Through this visit, it is expected that the students of SMK Negeri 2 Pinggir will be increasingly motivated to pursue higher education and have a clearer understanding and readiness to enter the world of higher education in the future. (ENGGY–RIRY)
