Inclusive Campus, Just Academia: New Ideas Emerge at FISIP UNRI National Seminar

Pekanbaru, 18 November 2025 — The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Riau (FISIP UNRI), through the Research and Development Division of the Government Science Student Association (HIMIP) Karta Baswara, held a National Seminar with the theme “Managing Diversity, Nurturing Justice: Challenges of Diversity Governance on Campus.” The event took place at the Drs. Sutan Balia Auditorium of FISIP UNRI and was attended by faculty leaders, students, lecturers, and various academic stakeholders.

The national seminar featured two speakers, Dr. Muhammad Ansor, MA, and Dr. Saiman Pakpahan, S.IP., M.Si, with Syafiqah Suud Helmi from the Government Science Study Program serving as moderator. The event was officially opened by the Dean of FISIP UNRI.

In his opening remarks, the Dean of FISIP UNRI, Dr. Meyzi Heriyanto, S.Sos., M.Si., emphasized the importance of the university’s commitment to preserving diversity as a foundation for academic justice.
“Diversity is not only a social reality but also an intellectual strength that enriches our perspectives within the campus environment. Governance of diversity must be carried out with principles of inclusivity, justice, and equality so that all members of the academic community feel valued and have equal opportunities to grow.”

The event received full support from the Head of the Government Science Department, Dr. Muchid, M.Phil, who also delivered remarks. He highlighted that issues of diversity cannot be separated from learning processes and academic governance.
“The Government Science Department is committed to continuously developing studies and practices that strengthen openness, tolerance, and justice within campus life. This seminar serves as a momentum to enrich students’ understanding of the importance of diversity governance in educational institutions,” he stated.

Chairperson of HIMIP Karta Baswara, Muhammad Alif, expressed that the national seminar is expected to open broader dialogue on the role of students in creating a harmonious and just campus environment.

In their presentations, the speakers addressed various challenges faced by universities in managing diversity, ranging from identity dynamics and student social relations to the need for adaptive and inclusive internal policies. The discussion was interactive, engaging participants with critical questions.

The event concluded with an interactive discussion session and group photo, marking FISIP UNRI’s commitment to continuing to present scientific activities relevant to contemporary social developments and academic needs. (RIRY)
