Department of Sociology, FISIP University of Riau Holds Workshop on Strengthening Research and Scientific Publication

Pekanbaru, April 23, 2026 – The Department of Sociology, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, University of Riau (FISIP UNRI), organized a workshop titled “Strengthening Research and Scientific Publication Strategies for Lecturers Based on Study Program Roadmaps to Support Accreditation” at the Meeting Room, 2nd Floor, Dean’s Building, FISIP UNRI. The event was attended by the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, the Vice Dean for Finance and General Affairs, Professor of Sociology Prof. Dr. Yusmar Yusuf, M.Psi., the Head of the Sociology Department, the Head of the Master’s Program in Sociology, and all lecturers of the Sociology Department.

In his remarks, the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs of FISIP UNRI, Dr. Auradian Marta, S.IP., M.A., stated, “This workshop is a strategic step for us to continuously encourage the improvement of research quality within FISIP. We hope activities like this can make a significant contribution to strengthening lecturers’ scientific publication capabilities, which in turn supports the accreditation process of study programs.”

The Head of the Sociology Department, Dr. Mita Rosaliza, S.Sos., M.Soc. Sc., expressed that this activity is highly relevant in strengthening the quality of research conducted by lecturers and students. “It is important for us to continuously update and strengthen scientific publication strategies based on the study program roadmap. This is one of our efforts to improve academic quality and achieve better accreditation.”

The event also featured a highly competent keynote speaker, Prof. Dr. Elly Malihah Setiadi, M.Si. from the University of Education Indonesia (UPI). In her presentation, Prof. Elly explained the importance of having a clear roadmap in every study program so that lecturers’ research can be published internationally and have a significant impact on the advancement of science. “Lecturers must have a clear vision in conducting research, along with an organized structure so that their research outcomes can be recognized globally,” she said.

In addition, Prof. Elly emphasized the importance of inter-university collaboration in strengthening the research and scientific publication ecosystem. “Through cooperation among various study programs and institutions, we can expand research networks, which will open greater opportunities for international publications,” she added.

The session continued with discussions and a question-and-answer segment between the speaker and participants. Lecturers actively raised questions regarding challenges in scientific publication and ways to increase research visibility, enrich knowledge, and broaden collaborative networks.

Met after the event, the Dean of FISIP UNRI, Dr. Meyzi Heriyanto, S.Sos., M.Si., stated that the activity was part of the Faculty’s commitment to continuously improving academic quality. “FISIP UNRI always strives to support scientific development that not only prioritizes educational quality, but also encourages broader scholarly contributions to society and the international community. This activity is expected to motivate lecturers to be more active in conducting research and publishing scientific works relevant to contemporary challenges,” said Dr. Meyzi.

A group photo session marked the closing of the workshop, which was filled with insights and enthusiasm to continuously enhance academic and research quality within the Department of Sociology, FISIP UNRI. (RIRY)
