FISIP UNRI Supports the Synergy of UNRI, Pertamina Patra Niaga, and BPDAS Indragiri Rokan to Realize a Green and Sustainable Campus

Pekanbaru, November 11, 2025 — The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, University of Riau (FISIP UNRI), demonstrated its support for the green campus movement by participating in a Tree Planting Event organized by the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) UNRI, in collaboration with Pertamina Patra Niaga SA Riau and the Watershed Management Agency (BPDAS) Indragiri Rokan. The event, held at the FEB UNRI Forest Area, marked a concrete step in fostering collaboration between academia, government, and industry to preserve the environment.

The event was attended by UNRI Rector Prof. Dr. Sri Indarti, SE., M.Si.; Dean of FEB UNRI Dr. Hj. Alvi Furwanti Alwie, SE., MM.; Dean of FISIP UNRI Dr. Meyzi Heriyanto, S.Sos., M.Si.; Dean of the Faculty of Fisheries Prof. Dr. Ir. Usman Muhammad Tang, M.S.; Vice Dean for Finance and General Affairs of FKIP Dr. Mahmud Alpusari, M.Pd.; as well as other faculty leaders from across UNRI. Also present were Eko Nurwijayanto, S.Hut., M.Si., Head of BPDAS Indragiri Rokan; Wilson Eddi Wijaya, representative of Pertamina Patra Niaga SA Riau; lecturers, academic staff, members of FEB’s nature lover community Humendala, and representatives of online driver partners (Gojek).

UNRI Rector Prof. Dr. Sri Indarti, SE., M.Si. expressed appreciation for the event, which supports UNRI’s vision of becoming a green campus.

“This tree planting movement is not merely symbolic but a collective commitment to environmental sustainability. We hope this activity will inspire other faculties to continue developing green spaces on campus,” she said.

Dean of FEB UNRI Dr. Hj. Alvi Furwanti Alwie, SE., M.M. emphasized that the activity is part of FEB’s ongoing efforts to create a comfortable, green, and sustainable learning environment.

“This tree planting complements FEB’s journey toward a green campus. We want students to learn not only in classrooms but also from nature that we nurture together,” Dr. Alvi stated.

Dean of FISIP UNRI Dr. Meyzi Heriyanto, S.Sos., M.Si., in an interview after the event, conveyed that FISIP fully supports cross-sector collaborations that prioritize environmental care.

“This green initiative is an excellent example of positive synergy between academia, government, and industry. FISIP fully supports such initiatives because environmental sustainability is a shared responsibility that should be instilled in both academic and social values,” he explained.

Head of BPDAS Indragiri Rokan Eko Nurwijayanto, S.Hut., M.Si. noted that this synergy plays a vital role in strengthening environmental awareness within academic communities.

“Universities hold a strategic role in fostering environmental consciousness from an early stage. We at BPDAS are ready to continue supporting and collaborating in campus greening programs,” he said.

Meanwhile, Wilson Eddi Wijaya, representative of Pertamina Patra Niaga SA Riau, stated that this activity aligns with the company’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives.

“Pertamina Patra Niaga SA Riau is committed to supporting green initiatives across various sectors, including higher education. We hope this tree planting becomes a small step that brings a big impact for our planet and future generations,” he remarked.

The event concluded with a symbolic handover of tree and orchid seedlings from Pertamina Patra Niaga SA Riau and BPDAS Indragiri Rokan to the UNRI Rector, followed by the official inauguration of the FEB UNRI Forest Area and joint tree planting by all participants and guests.
