FISIP Green Society Prepares to Welcome World Tree Day 2026

Pekanbaru, April 21, 2026 – The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Riau (FISIP UNRI), held an evaluation meeting for the FISIP Green Society program today in the Akar Beluru Room, Deanery Building of FISIP UNRI. The event was attended by the Dean of FISIP, Dr. Meyzi Heriyanto, S.Sos., M.Si., the Vice Dean for Finance and General Affairs, Dr. Mayarni, S.Sos., M.Si., as well as all Green Society team members involved in the faculty’s environmental initiatives.

Various measures that have been carried out to support environmental sustainability on campus were discussed and evaluated. Initiated by FISIP UNRI, FISIP Green Society aims to strengthen awareness and collective action in protecting the environment through waste management, greening efforts, and reducing carbon footprints. One of the key topics discussed was the action plan for the 2026 World Tree Day commemoration, along with the flagship Green Pay program, an initiative of the FISIP Waste Bank designed to reduce plastic and paper waste by providing incentives to campus members who deposit recyclable waste through a savings system.

The Dean of FISIP UNRI, Dr. Meyzi Heriyanto, S.Sos., M.Si., stated, “World Tree Day reminds us of the important role trees play in maintaining ecosystem balance. FISIP remains committed to supporting environmental conservation movements through various initiatives, including campus greening programs and the Green Pay Waste Bank. We believe that sustainability is not only about the present, but also about creating a greener and cleaner environment for future generations.”

Dr. Meyzi also added that FISIP Green Society is part of the social responsibility that must be carried out by every academic element at UNRI, with the goal of continuously fostering collective awareness of environmental issues. The FISIP Green Society team is committed to further developing and enhancing this program in support of UNRI’s vision as a campus that cares about environmental sustainability.

The evaluation meeting concluded with follow-up plans to be implemented in the coming months, including strengthening collaboration with both external and internal parties in efforts to increase awareness and expand the implementation of greener programs. (RIRY)
