
Pekanbaru, October 30, 2025 — The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Riau (FISIP UNRI), held a Seminar on Palestine at the Sutan Balia Auditorium, FISIP UNRI Campus, on Thursday (30/10). The event featured Ust. Muhammad Husein Gaza, Lc., from the International Networking for Humanitarian (INH), as the main speaker, discussing the humanitarian situation in Palestine and the role of young generations in supporting global solidarity.
The seminar was officially opened by Dr. Auradian Marta, S.IP., M.A., Vice Dean for Academic Affairs of FISIP UNRI, who expressed appreciation for the initiative as an effort to instill values of humanity, empathy, and social responsibility within the academic community.
“FISIP is always committed to fostering social awareness among students. Through seminars like this, we learn that knowledge is not only for personal benefit but also for the betterment of humanity,” said Dr. Auradian.

Meanwhile, Dr. Meyzi Heriyanto, S.Sos., M.Si., Dean of FISIP UNRI, who attended the event, conveyed his full support for the initiative organized by the FISIP Musholla and student communities. According to him, campuses should actively serve as spaces to promote universal human values.
“This kind of activity is highly relevant to FISIP’s spirit as a faculty closely engaged with social and humanitarian issues. We want our students not only to understand theories but also to develop empathy for global struggles, including those faced by our brothers and sisters in Palestine,” said Dr. Meyzi.
The Head of the FISIP Musholla, Sofyan Hadi, S.IP., M.Si., explained that the event was a tangible expression of FISIP’s concern for the humanitarian crisis in Palestine, as well as an educational platform for students.
“We want FISIP students to realize that the Palestinian issue is not merely political or religious, but fundamentally a humanitarian one. Through this seminar, we learn to nurture solidarity and understand the meaning of struggle for independence,” he emphasized.

The seminar, which ran until 11:30 a.m., was attended by students from various study programs within FISIP UNRI. In addition to the presentation and discussion sessions, the event concluded with a collective prayer for the people of Palestine and a humanitarian support initiative.
