Pekanbaru — The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Riau (FISIP UNRI) participated in an event organized by Universitas Riau (UNRI) to welcome a visit from Universitas Maritim Raja Ali Haji (UMRAH). The visit aimed to explore opportunities while strengthening cooperation between higher education institutions within the Universitas Riau environment.
The event was attended by leaders from both universities as well as officials listed in the invitation and the event agenda. In addition to the university leadership, all deans within Universitas Riau were also present, including the Dean and the Vice Dean for Student Affairs, Alumni, and Cooperation of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) Universitas Riau, who took part in the entire series of activities.
The event began with an opening session, followed by remarks from the leaders of both universities, and continued with a discussion session on potential collaboration in various areas such as education, research, community service, as well as the development of information systems and university governance.
The Rector of Universitas Riau, Prof. Dr. Sri Indarti, M.Si, in her remarks stated that cooperation between universities is a strategic step in strengthening institutional capacity, particularly in facing the challenges of higher education development in the global era. She emphasized that Universitas Riau is open to building mutually reinforcing collaborations in academic development, research, and innovation that benefit society.
“Inter-university cooperation is an important part of improving the quality of education and expanding academic networks. Universitas Riau welcomes this collaborative initiative as a joint effort to strengthen the role of higher education in regional and national development,” she said.
Meanwhile, the Rector of Universitas Maritim Raja Ali Haji, Prof. Dr. Agung Dhamar Syakti, DEA, expressed his appreciation and gratitude for the warm reception extended by Universitas Riau. He hopes that the meeting will serve as the beginning of broader and sustainable cooperation between the two institutions.
“We would like to express our gratitude for the warm welcome from Universitas Riau. Through this meeting, we hope to strengthen synergy in various fields, particularly those related to academic development and research that are relevant to the needs of society,” he stated.
Responding to the opportunities for cooperation, the Vice Rector of Universitas Riau for Planning, Cooperation, and Information Systems, Dr. Ir. Sofyan Husein Siregar, M.Phil, emphasized the importance of structured and sustainable collaboration. He noted that cooperation between universities should be strategically designed in order to produce programs with tangible impact.
“The cooperation established is expected not only to be limited to the signing of documents, but also to be realized through concrete programs that can be implemented jointly in the fields of academics, research, and information system development,” he explained.
On the same occasion, the Dean of FISIP Universitas Riau, Dr. Meyzi Heriyanto, S.Sos., M.Si, also expressed his support for strengthening cooperation between universities. According to him, cross-institutional collaboration provides an important opportunity for faculties to expand academic networks and enhance the quality of the implementation of the tridharma of higher education.
As part of the event series, a signing session of the cooperation agreement documents between Universitas Riau and Universitas Maritim Raja Ali Haji was also held as a form of commitment from both institutions to strengthen collaboration in the fields of education, research, and community service.
