Pekanbaru, September 26, 2025 — The Business Administration Study Program, Department of Administrative Sciences, FISIP Universitas Riau once again held a Practitioner Teaching session featuring Business Administration alumni (Class of 2000) Joseva Silaen, S.Sos, MM. The event, held on Friday, September 26, 2025, aimed to enrich students’ insights into consumer behavior and trends in the Hotel, Restaurant, and Café (HoReCa) industry.
In this session, Joseva Silaen, who is currently pursuing a career in the HoReCa industry as General Manager of New Hollywood Hotel Pekanbaru, shared his knowledge and experiences on understanding the dynamics of consumer behavior—one of the key challenges in designing business strategies in this sector. His presentation covered the latest trends in consumer needs, the role of technology in shaping customer preferences, and effective marketing approaches to capture the increasingly competitive HoReCa market.
Joseva emphasized the importance of understanding consumer behavior as the key to designing relevant products and services. “In the HoReCa sector, consumer trends change rapidly. Therefore, the ability to analyze and predict consumer behavior is crucial,” he said during his lecture.

The event also provided students with the opportunity to engage directly with a practitioner who has extensive industry experience. With an interactive teaching style, Joseva encouraged students to ask questions, share their thoughts, and gain deeper insights into the real-world application of business management theories.
The Coordinator of the Business Administration Study Program, Dr. Lie Othman, S.Pi, MM, in his remarks expressed his gratitude: “We are very grateful to our alumnus, Joseva Silaen, for returning to campus and sharing his knowledge with students. Practitioner teaching sessions like this are part of our efforts to introduce students to the professional world and equip them with insights that are directly relevant to labor market needs.”

Students of the Business Administration Study Program who attended the session found the material highly beneficial. “The content was very practical and relevant to current trends in the HoReCa industry. It really broadened our perspective on how to manage consumer-oriented businesses,” said one participant.
Looking ahead, the Business Administration Study Program plans to continue organizing practitioner teaching sessions by collaborating with alumni and professionals from various industries to provide students with valuable knowledge and experiences as they prepare for their future careers in the business world.
