
Pekanbaru, September 15, 2025 — Universitas Riau (UNRI) hosted the send-off ceremony for athletes of the Indonesian Student Sports Development Board (BAPOMI) of Riau Province, ahead of their departure to the 19th National Student Sports Week (POMNAS XIX) 2025, which will take place in Semarang and Surakarta, Central Java, from September 19–27, 2025. The solemn ceremony was held at Siak Sri Indrapura Hall, 4th Floor of the UNRI Rectorate Building, attended by BAPOMI Riau officials, sponsor representatives, and the athletes.
In his remarks, UNRI Vice Rector for Student Affairs and Alumni as well as Chairman of BAPOMI Riau, Prof. Dr. Hermandra, S.Pd., MA, delivered a motivational message to all athletes.
"You are no longer coming from different places, because now you all represent Riau. Once again, thank you to the Provincial Government, sponsors, coaches, and all of you who will be competing. Let’s bring honor to Riau Province," emphasized Prof. Hermandra.

Echoing this, Dr. Meyzi Heriyanto, S.Sos., M.Si., Dean of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) Universitas Riau, expressed his support for the students selected to represent UNRI.
"We are proud that several FISIP students have been entrusted to strengthen UNRI’s contingent at POMNAS XIX. May their efforts bring achievements that will honor both FISIP and Universitas Riau," said Dr. Meyzi.
The FISIP UNRI students who will compete in the national event are Muhammad Rafly Al-Farras (Basketball, Business Administration Program), Fazle Mawla Pasha Pahlevi (Basketball, International Relations Department), and Nurmaizar (Petanque, Business Administration Program).

In addition to the university’s support, the event also received attention from the Riau Provincial Government and sponsors, including IM3, Bank Riau Kepri, and Riau Petroleum, who contributed to meeting the transportation and accommodation needs of the athletes.
With a spirit of sportsmanship and the full support of the Riau community, UNRI students are expected to perform at their best, uphold the values of fair play, and bring home proud achievements.
