Pekanbaru, April 9, 2026 — The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences at Universitas Riau (FISIP UNRI) took part in a specific working visit conducted by the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia through Commission X, held at the Siak Sri Indrapura Hall, 4th Floor of the Universitas Riau Rectorate Building, Thursday (April 9). This activity served as a strategic forum to discuss various crucial issues in higher education, particularly the new student admission system and education cost standards.
The working visit was attended by leaders of higher education institutions across Riau Province, university officials, and academics. Representing FISIP UNRI were the Dean, Dr. Meyzi Heriyanto, S.Sos., M.Si., along with the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, Dr. Auradian Marta, S.IP., M.A.
From the legislative side, several members of Commission X of the Indonesian House of Representatives were present, including Dr. Kurniasih Mufidayati, M.Si., Himmatul Aliyah, S.Sos., M.Si., Dr. Sofyan Tan, Dr. Karmila Sari, S.Kom., M.M, Puti Guntur Soekarno Putri, Denny Cagur, and Verrell Bramasta, among others.
The Rector of Universitas Riau, Prof. Dr. Sri Indarti, S.E., M.Si., in her remarks, expressed appreciation for the visit as a form of the central government’s attention to the development of higher education in the region. She emphasized the importance of synergy between universities and the government in improving the quality of the new student admission system and ensuring fair education cost policies.

“This momentum serves as a constructive dialogue space to convey various challenges and needs of higher education institutions, particularly in facing the current dynamics of higher education policies.”

The Head of the Working Visit Team of Commission X, Kurniasih Mufidayati, stated that the purpose of the visit was to absorb aspirations and gain direct insights into the implementation of new student admission policies and higher education cost standards in the regions.
“We want to hear directly from universities about the challenges they face, both in the student selection process and in determining education costs, so that the policies formulated truly align with real conditions in the field,” she said.

Responding to this, the Dean of FISIP UNRI, Dr. Meyzi Heriyanto, expressed support for efforts to enhance a transparent and accountable new student admission system. He also highlighted the importance of policies that are adaptive to the socio-economic conditions of society to ensure broad access to higher education.
“We hope that the policies resulting from this visit will be able to address challenges in the field, particularly in creating an inclusive selection system and proportional education financing.”
The event continued with an interactive discussion session between Commission X and university leaders in Riau. Various strategic issues were raised, ranging from student admission mechanisms, equitable access to education, to fair determination of higher education costs.




Through this forum, it is expected that stronger communication will be established between policymakers and higher education institutions, in order to promote the improvement of national education quality, particularly in the Riau region. (Enggy-RIRY)
