Pekanbaru, August 2, 2025 — The cool afternoon air in Sialang Rampai Village witnessed the enthusiasm of the students of the Independent Learning Independent Campus Community Service Program (KKN MBKM) from the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) Universitas Riau in fostering environmental awareness among the local community.
On Saturday, August 2, 2025, at exactly 5:00 PM, the students officially launched educational signs and waste sorting bins in strategic areas around the RW 01 volleyball court, a popular spot for community activities.
This program is part of the ongoing efforts by the KKN students to increase community awareness about waste management. The event was attended by the head of RW 01, Sugiatno, and the head of RT 01, Sekwildi Ambo, who expressed appreciation and support from the local government for the green initiative led by the students.
The installed educational signs provide concise yet informative messages about the importance of separating organic and inorganic waste, as well as the potential hazards of unmanaged waste accumulation.
Meanwhile, the waste sorting bins are creatively made from recycled materials, including used plastic drums and unused wood, complete with labels and different colors to help the community easily sort their waste.
The presence of these signs and bins serves not only as functional tools for waste management but also as symbols of change and grassroots education. These facilities are expected to beautify the environment while fostering new habits in household waste management among residents.
The KKN group leader, Viola, expressed her hope that the program would continue even after the KKN period ends. She aims to nurture a collective spirit in preserving the environment and to be a living example that significant change can start from small steps.
The launching event concluded with a photo session involving residents and community leaders, reaffirming the synergy between students and the community in caring for the Earth, starting from the closest environment.
