Pekanbaru, August 1, 2025 — The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Riau (FISIP UNRI), once again held the 2025 Introduction to Campus Life for New Students (PKKMB), an annual agenda that serves not only as an entry point into academic life but also as a platform to instill values of integrity, tolerance, and empathy. Carrying the theme "FISIP with Integrity: Rejecting Violence, Intolerance, and Bullying," the two-day event welcomed hundreds of new students from various study programs.
The opening ceremony was vibrant and filled with enthusiasm. Held at the FISIP UNRI campus, the event was attended by faculty leadership, the Senate Chair, Department Heads, Study Program Coordinators, lecturers, and alumni. The presence of these key figures symbolized FISIP’s strong commitment to shaping students’ character from the start.
A strong cultural atmosphere marked the opening, highlighted by a Zapin Dance performance by Sanggar Seni Titah Negeri, showcasing the richness of Malay culture to the attendees. The event was hosted by two talented FISIP students, Khairiyah and Muhammad Sadam, who successfully enlivened the atmosphere with their energetic and communicative style.
The agenda continued with a recitation of the Holy Qur’an by Dzaki Ghathfan Kurnia, a FISIP student and award-winning Qori, providing a spiritual and calming start to the event.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Saiman, S.IP., M.Si, Vice Dean for Student Affairs, Alumni, and Partnerships — and also Chair of the PKKMB 2025 Committee — emphasized that the event was more than a ceremony. It served as an educational platform to introduce academic culture, enhance social capacity, and strengthen the values of unity and anti-discrimination.

Following this, Dr. Meyzi Heriyanto, S.Sos., M.Si, Dean of FISIP UNRI, officially opened PKKMB 2025 and conveyed an important message about maintaining integrity in all aspects of campus life. He also stressed that FISIP must be a safe and healthy space for all students, without exception.
During the event, FISIP launched three strategic initiatives:
1. The FISIP Human Resources Application, as a step toward modernizing and streamlining administrative services;
2. The 3rd International Symposium on Environmental Energy Policy, which will bring together academics and practitioners from various countries;
3. FISIPVerse Tabloid, as a medium for literacy, communication, and creativity for the academic community.

Deny Rendra, S.IP., M.Si, Secretary of the FISIP Alumni Association (IKA FISIP), in his remarks, highlighted the crucial role of alumni in supporting student development in both academic and non-academic fields. He encouraged all students to begin building strong and productive networks from the outset of their college journey.

As a token of appreciation, FISIP presented symbolic awards to outstanding students of 2025, accompanied by their academic advisors and mentors. This served both as motivation and a reminder that dedication and hard work are always recognized.

Environmental awareness was also promoted through the symbolic handover of orchid plants from FISIP’s Green Society to the faculty. The handover, conducted by Robi Armilus, S.Sos., M.Si, reflected FISIP’s commitment to campus sustainability and environmental conservation.

In addition, FISIP expanded its external network by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Akademi Basolang, represented by Director Robi Armilus. The institution pledged to support FISIP students through scholarships and academic mentoring.

A highlight of the event was the signing of an Anti-Bullying Pact, involving faculty leaders, the Senate Chair, professors, lecturers, and student representatives from the BEM and BLM. This pact represents a collective commitment to ensuring campus remains a fair and safe learning environment, free from violence, discrimination, and all forms of intimidation.

The event continued with an educational session titled "Personal Data Protection in the Digital Era," delivered by Cecep Suryadi, S.Sos., M.Si, a member of the Indonesian Central Information Commission (2017–2022), and moderated by Fatmawati, S.Sos., M.Si. Cecep urged students to understand the importance of digital literacy, media ethics, and strategies to protect personal data amid the rapid flow of information.

A subsequent Sharing Session with Telkomsel provided insights into technological developments, digital opportunities, and the role of students as agents of change in the global connectivity era.

In the second half of the program, new students were introduced to the structure and functions of various student organizations at the faculty level, including:
1. FISIP Student Executive Board (BEM) – presented by the BEM Governor;
2. FISIP Student Legislative Body (BLM) – presented by the BLM Chair;
3. LSMI Al-Madani – presented by the Chair of LSMI;
4. Mapala Sakai (Student Nature Lovers) – presented by the Chair of Mapala.

The event concluded energetically with a Cheering Competition, Oration Contest, and Demonstration Simulation, all of which sharpened students’ communication skills, social awareness, and solidarity. These activities reflected the diversity of expression and high enthusiasm as students entered academic life.
With all the values, messages, and spirit of unity embedded throughout the program, PKKMB FISIP UNRI 2025 stood not merely as an orientation event, but as a meaningful space for shaping strong, collaborative, and integrity-driven student identities. FISIP UNRI continues to uphold its commitment as an educational institution that nurtures future leaders who are courageous, compassionate, and ready to face the challenges of the era.
