Faculty of Social and Political Sciences University of Riau

Based on the Riau University Foundation Decree Number 02/KPTS/JUR/62, the University of Riau was established on September 25, 1962, accompanied by the Decree of the Minister of Higher Education and Science No. 123 dated September 20, 1963. The University of Riau was officially founded on October 1, 1962, so that in 2020 it was 58 years old. Initially, the University of Riau only consisted of the Faculty of State Administration and Commerce (FKK) and the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP). Then in 1963, two other faculties were opened, namely the Faculty of Economics and the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. In 1964, one more faculty was established, namely the Faculty of Fisheries, so the University of Riau at that time had five faculties. In 1964, the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education of the University of Riau separated and became the IKIP Jakarta Pekanbaru Branch. However, in 1968 it rejoined the University of Riau into two faculties, namely the Faculty of Teacher Training and the Faculty of Education. In 1979, the establishment of another exact science faculty, the Faculty of Non-Degree Technology, was initiated. Thus, until 1982, the University of Riau had seven faculties.

The University of Riau has several campuses to support the implementation of academic and non-academic activities. The main campus, called the Bina Widya Campus, covering 345.617 hectares, has been in operation since 1983 and is located about 12.5 km from the center of Pekanbaru City. This campus consists of the rectorate and faculties (Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Faculty of Economics and Business, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Faculty of Fisheries, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Nursing, and Postgraduate, Library, Institutions, Information and Communication Technology Technical Implementation Unit, Teaching Hospital, Mosque, and others. The second campus, the Purnama Campus, is located in Dumai City with an area of 32.045 hectares to support the academic activities of the Marine Science Study Program. Meanwhile, the Pattimura Campus on Pattimura Street, Gobah, Pekanbaru, covers 5.795 hectares, and Thamrin Street covers 4 hectares. The Pattimura Campus is used by the Faculty of Law (FH), Postgraduate Programs, Economics Diploma Program (D3), Career Development and Entrepreneurship Center (P2K2), and others. The Faculty of Medicine has a campus on Diponegoro Street near the Arifin Ahmad Provincial General Hospital. In addition, there is also the former Sports Teacher School (SGO) campus for the implementation of study programs related to sports.

History of the Establishment of FISIP

The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) was established simultaneously with the founding of the University of Riau in Pekanbaru. The establishment of the University of Riau was based on the Riau University Foundation Decree No. 02/KPTS/JUR/62, September 25, 1962, which was reinforced by the Decree of the Minister of Higher Education and Science No. 123 on September 20, 1963, effective since October 1, 1963. At the time of its establishment, the oldest faculty at the University of Riau was named the Faculty of State Administration and Commerce (FKK). It later changed its name to the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences or abbreviated as Fak.SOSPOL, consisting of two departments: the Department of Public Administration and the Department of Business Administration.

Strategically, FISIP University of Riau is designed and prepared to provide an optimal contribution to realizing a Research University in accordance with the Vision of the University of Riau. FISIP has also succeeded in transforming the Legal Science Study Program of the Department of Government Science into the Faculty of Law.
