On October 9, 2024, the Sociology Alumni Association (IKA) held a scholarship awarding ceremony for Sociology students at FISIP Universitas Riau in the Dean’s Meeting Room. The event was attended by the Dean of FISIP Universitas Riau, Dr. Meyzi Heriyanto, S.Sos., M.Si.; Head of the Sociology Department, Dr. Achmad Hidir, S.Sos., M.Si.; the Chairman and board members of IKA Sociology, along with the board of the Sociology Student Association (IMS), and leaders from the Sekawan Foundation.
In his remarks, the Chairman of IKA Sociology, Robi Armilus, S.Sos., M.Si., stated that this scholarship award marks the first year of the initiative by Sociology alumni, with 25 applicants. The applicants were then narrowed down to 11 recipients in collaboration with IMS. Robi expressed hope that this initiative would continue in the future.
The Head of the Sociology Department, Dr. Achmad Hidir, S.Sos., M.Si., expressed his gratitude to the IKA Sociology leadership for their role in the development of students, particularly Sociology students, through the provision of this scholarship. He hopes that the scholarship will motivate Sociology students to study harder and achieve more.
Dean of FISIP Universitas Riau, Dr. Meyzi Heriyanto, S.Sos., M.Si., expressed his appreciation and thanks for IKA Sociology's contribution to Sociology students and to FISIP students in general. He hopes that the IKA Sociology scholarship will inspire other alumni associations from different departments/programs within FISIP Universitas Riau to do the same. This aligns with FISIP's motto, "SOCIETY," which embodies inclusive education for all.
In addition to the scholarship awarding ceremony for Sociology students, FISIP Universitas Riau signed a collaboration agreement with the Sekawan Foundation, led by Hidayatun Nisa, S.Sos., M.Si., on the topic of Green Society. It is hoped that this collaboration will lead to more active involvement by FISIP Universitas Riau in social activities related to environmental issues.
The scholarship award and the signing of this collaboration agreement are expected to have a positive impact. Not only will it help students with their educational costs, but FISIP Universitas Riau's collaboration with Sekawan Foundation can also drive change in environmental conservation efforts. -Enggy-RIRY
