Pekanbaru, May 20, 2026 — The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences of Universitas Riau (FISIP UNRI) took part in the 118th National Awakening Day (Harkitnas) Commemoration Ceremony 2026 held at the courtyard of the UNRI Rectorate Building on Wednesday (20/5). The event was attended by university leaders, lecturers, educational staff, students, and student organizations within UNRI.
The ceremony was conducted in accordance with the instruction of the Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia through the official guidelines for the 2026 National Awakening Day commemoration. Serving as the ceremony inspector was the Vice Rector for Planning, Cooperation, and Information Systems of UNRI, Dr. Ir. Sofyan Husein Siregar, M.Phil., who delivered the official address of the Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia.
In the address, it was conveyed that National Awakening Day 2026 serves as a momentum to strengthen the spirit of unity, nationalism, and concern for the future of the nation’s younger generation. Carrying the theme “Protect the Nation’s Young Generation for the Sovereignty of the State,” the government invited all elements of society to work together in nurturing and safeguarding young people as the nation’s most valuable asset.
The speech also emphasized the importance of strengthening character building, education, and digital literacy amid rapid technological development and globalization. Young generations are expected to become resilient, competitive individuals who possess a strong sense of nationalism in safeguarding the country’s sovereignty.
Dean of FISIP UNRI, Dr. Meyzi Heriyanto, S.Sos., M.Si., following the ceremony, stated that National Awakening Day serves as a momentum to foster the spirit of unity and nationalism among the academic community. According to him, this year’s theme is an important reminder that young generations hold a strategic role in securing the nation’s future amid the challenges of the digital era. He also emphasized the importance of collaboration between educational institutions, families, and society in creating a supportive environment for the growth and development of future generations.
The ceremony was conducted solemnly and orderly, becoming a moment of collective reflection to continuously strengthen the spirit of national awakening in facing the challenges of the times. (Enggy-RIRY)
