Pekanbaru, November 29, 2024 – The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), Universitas Riau, organized a documentary screening and discussion event featuring the film "17 Love Letters". Held in Building D2 of FISIP, the event was attended by students from various study programs, aiming to raise awareness about deforestation issues across Indonesia. This initiative seeks to foster critical thinking and enhance sensitivity to environmental issues among FISIP Unri students.
The event was part of the soft launching of Tabloid Tekad Reborn. The event coordinator, Lien Andini, stated that this activity represents Tabloid Tekad Reborn's commitment to bringing environmental issues into practical academic discussions.
Dr. Saiman Pakpahan, S.IP., M.Si., Vice Dean III for Student Affairs, Partnerships, and Alumni, expressed his support in his opening remarks:
"FISIP always supports student creativity, particularly in building awareness of social and environmental issues. This documentary is a concrete step in training students to be sensitive to critical problems around them."
Dr. Rumyeni, M.Soc., Head of the Communication Studies Department, also applauded the initiative. She noted that the activity successfully bridged academic elements with relevant global issues:
"Students are not only learning theories but also applying them directly through discussions and critical reflections that are solution-oriented."
Meanwhile, Dr. Chelsy Yesicha, M.I.Kom., a lecturer in the Investigative Report course, added that the event was part of a project-based learning approach to prepare students for their final exams. "This documentary opens perspectives from multiple angles and serves as an ideal example of how investigative journalism can be presented in an engaging and in-depth manner."
The event also marked the soft launching of Tabloid Tekad Reborn, symbolizing the revival of student journalism in FISIP Universitas Riau. Dr. Meyzi Heriyanto, S.Sos., M.Si., Dean of FISIP, stated on a separate occasion:
"The return of Tabloid Tekad reflects the spirit of students in voicing aspirations and becoming agents of change. We fully support this initiative as a medium for developing literacy and intellectual culture."
The event was also attended by Dr. Fajriani Ananda, S.Sos., M.Si., Head of the Information and Documentation Management Officer (PPID) of FISIP Universitas Riau, who shared her appreciation:
"Documentaries like this create critical and productive discussion spaces. This is crucial for building a strong academic culture."
The documentary "17 Love Letters" captivated the audience with its deep narrative about the impacts of deforestation on ecosystems and community life. The discussion that followed was interactive, involving students, lecturers, and representatives from student organizations.
Through this event, it is hoped that FISIP Universitas Riau students will be increasingly inspired to remain critical and proactive in addressing strategic issues.
