Pekanbaru, October 14, 2024 – In an effort to enhance English language proficiency among lecturers, UPT Bahasa Universitas Riau has once again held the Conversation Class for Lecturers. This program, which is attended by active lecturers from various faculties at Universitas Riau, aims to strengthen their ability to communicate in English actively and effectively.

Dr. Afrianto Daud, M.Ed., Head of UPT Bahasa Universitas Riau, highlighted the importance of mastering the English language, especially in academic settings. "The ability to speak English is crucial, not only for teaching and academic publications but also for international collaborations. With this class, we hope lecturers will gain more confidence in using English in both academic and everyday contexts," said Dr. Afrianto.

The class was officially opened by Maria Safriyanti, M.Pd., an expert staff at UPT Bahasa Universitas Riau. In her opening remarks, Maria emphasized the importance of the program in helping lecturers improve their English language skills. "We are committed to supporting lecturers in becoming competitive at the international level. This class is designed to enhance fluency in speaking English," stated Maria during the opening ceremony.

Dr. Meyzi Heriyanto, S.Sos., M.Si., Dean of FISIP Universitas Riau, in a separate occasion, expressed his appreciation for FISIP lecturers participating in this program. "I am very proud to see many FISIP lecturers enthusiastic about continuously learning and improving their capacity, particularly in English. This is a crucial step for academic communication and international collaboration. I hope participants make the most of this opportunity and bring positive outcomes for the development of our faculty," said Dr. Meyzi.

The FISIP lecturers selected to participate in the Conversation Class are: Dr. Fajriani Ananda, S.Sos., M.Si, from the Public Administration Department, Dr. Tantri Puspita Yazid, M.I.Kom., from the Communication Studies Department, and Risky Arya Putri, S.Sos., M.Si., from the Public Administration Department.

The Conversation Class for Lecturers is conducted over 32 learning hours, with three sessions per week held offline. This program is expected to better prepare Universitas Riau lecturers to face the challenges of globalization and strengthen international networks.

This program is open to 20 selected participants, announced on October 9, 2024, following a registration process that was open from October 1 to October 7, 2024.-RIRY-
