On October 25, 2024, the Doctoral and Master's Programs in Public Administration, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), Universitas Riau, held a public lecture on the theme "The Future of Public Organizations." This lecture featured guest speakers Prof. Dr. Martani Huseini from Universitas Indonesia and Associate Prof. Dr. Chan Kim Ling from the National University of Malaysia. Also attending the event were the Coordinator of the Doctoral Program in Public Administration, Dr. Adianto, S.Sos., M.Si, the Coordinator of the Master’s Program in Public Administration, Dr. Hasim As'ari, S.Sos., M.Si, Professor of Development Administration, Prof. Dr. Zaili Rusli, M.Si, along with homebase lecturers and students from both programs.

In his opening remarks, the Dean of FISIP Universitas Riau, Dr. Meyzi Heriyanto, S.Sos., M.Si., expressed his appreciation for the Public Administration Program's initiative in organizing a public lecture on "The Future of Public Organizations." He emphasized that this theme is highly relevant to the digital era's developments and the increasing demand for quality public services. "We hope this event will provide strategic insights for students and faculty in facing dynamic challenges and changes within public organizations," said Dr. Meyzi.

Dr. Adianto, S.Sos., M.Si., Coordinator of the Doctoral Program in Public Administration, added that this public lecture aims to strengthen students' understanding from both academic and practical perspectives regarding the future of public organizations. He also expressed hope that such activities would serve as a platform for students and faculty to engage in in-depth discussions with experts.

In a similar vein, Dr. Hasim As'ari, S.Sos., M.Si., Coordinator of the Master’s Program in Public Administration, stated that learning from the experiences of prominent academics and practitioners is a strategic step to enrich students’ knowledge in creating more adaptive, innovative, and service-oriented public organizations. "We are committed to continually bringing in competent speakers to enhance the quality of academic learning in our institution."

Guest speaker Prof. Dr. Martani Huseini discussed the changes occurring within public organizations that need to be understood and addressed to maintain and improve organizational performance in the future. Prof. Martani highlighted anticipated shifts in public governance tied to technological advancements and societal needs, explaining that the ability to transform governance systems to be more responsive and innovative will be a key factor in the future success of public organizations.

Associate Prof. Dr. Chan Kim Ling spoke about the crucial role of innovation within public organizations. He emphasized that innovation is not new but is something public organizations must embrace to remain relevant in the future, underscoring the importance of public policies that encourage innovation within the organizations themselves. The discussion and Q&A sessions were interactive.
