Athlete Eirene Yosepine Ritonga, a third-semester student from Riau University, has successfully won a gold medal in the under 42 kg K44 category of para-taekwondo at the XVII National Paralympic Week (Peparnas) in Solo. This remarkable achievement came after just two months of training.
Eirene was previously a para-swimming athlete, representing Riau at Peparnas XVI in Papua. However, she decided to explore new opportunities in para-taekwondo, a decision that yielded outstanding results.
At Peparnas XVII, Eirene secured the gold medal in the under 42 kg K44 category after being advised by her coaching team to focus and maintain calm during matches. This guidance enabled her to score points against her opponent effectively. In the final match of the under 42 kg K44 category, Eirene triumphed over Central Java's para-taekwondo athlete, Nafara Putri Salsabila.T
This achievement proves that Eirene can develop her skills in a new sport, even though she was not very familiar with it before.
Looking ahead, Eirene plans to continue developing her skills through structured training. Her next goal is to strengthen Indonesia in international para-sports competitions.
Eirene's extraordinary achievement did not come easily; it was the result of just two months of training. She has demonstrated that success is attainable as long as one is diligent in honing their abilities and striving for improvement. Hopefully, Eirene's success will motivate other athletes in Indonesia to continue developing their skills and pursue their dreams of becoming accomplished athletes. -Enggy-Ikhsan-
