Pekanbaru - November 15, 2024 – The Graduate Program of Communication Studies at Universitas Riau held a public lecture titled "Political Communication Forensics to Safeguard Democracy" on Friday (11/15/2024). The event aimed to broaden perspectives in the field of communication studies and featured Prof. Dr. Ibnu Hamad, M.Si., a Distinguished Professor of the Faculty of Communication Sciences at Universitas Indonesia, as the keynote speaker.

Dr. Welly Wirman, S.IP., M.Si., Coordinator of the Master’s Program in Communication Studies at Unri, explained that the public lecture was designed to enrich the knowledge of students and faculty while providing an opportunity for in-depth academic discussion. The topic of Political Communication Forensics was chosen due to its novelty within Unri's communication program and its absence in other communication programs across Riau. "This topic is increasingly relevant in the current context, as we remain within a political year," noted Dr. Welly.

In his opening remarks, the Dean of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences at Universitas Riau, Dr. Meyzi Heriyanto, S.Sos., M.Si., expressed his hopes that the public lecture would serve as a platform to deepen students' and faculty members' understanding of political communication dynamics. “We fully support the efforts of the master's program to invite experts to share relevant and contextual knowledge, especially during such a crucial period. We hope this discussion will be widely beneficial to all participants and strengthen our academic commitment to safeguarding democracy,” stated Dr. Meyzi.

Prof. Dr. Ibnu Hamad, invited as the keynote speaker, is renowned as a communication expert from Universitas Indonesia, possessing extensive knowledge and deep experience in his field. The event was attended by 50 participants, including graduate communication students and faculty members from the communication department.
