On September 19, 2024, Universitas Riau held a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with the topic "Evaluation of New Student Admissions at Universitas Riau for the 2024/2025 Academic Year" at Pangeran Hotel, Pekanbaru. The FGD was attended by the Rector of Universitas Riau, Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Vice Rector for General and Financial Affairs, Vice Rector for Student Affairs and Alumni, Vice Rector for Planning, Cooperation, and Information Systems, the Head of the Institute for Educational Quality Assurance and Educational Quality Implementation (LPPMP), all Deans, the Coordinator of the UNRI MBKM Center, including the Dean of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) Universitas Riau, Dr. Meyzi Heriyanto, M.Si.
To enhance the quality of education, the Rector of Universitas Riau, Prof. Dr. Sri Indarti, S.E., M.Si, explained that Universitas Riau has prioritized improving the quality of education covering all aspects, including education, facilities, and human resource development.
In a presentation by another speaker, Dr. Rahman Karnila, S.Pi., M.Si, as Secretary of the LPPMP, explained various aspects of the new student admission process, including student selection through entrance exams and merit-based or integrated admission pathways.
The FGD concluded with a consensus among all participants that the evaluation of the new student admission process must continue to be conducted so that Universitas Riau's educational programs can continually improve their quality and contribute positively to society and national development. This shows that Universitas Riau is highly attentive to maintaining quality in the student selection process to enhance future performance.
In this regard, FISIP Universitas Riau participated in the FGD. Dr. Meyzi Heriyanto, M.Si, as Dean of FISIP, stated that every faculty must pay attention to the quality of new student selection to meet the established standards and produce high-quality students.
Academic potential and achievement tests are the main factors in the new student selection process at Universitas Riau, as conveyed by Dr. Rahman Karnila, Secretary of LPPMP. However, some students may have achievements that do not fall into those categories. Therefore, Universitas Riau also has alternative methods for considering new student admissions through merit-based or integrated pathways.
Innovation in the new student admission process can help the university attract high-quality students with skills, talents, and abilities in specific fields. This, in turn, will build a positive image for Universitas Riau and increase public trust.
