Pekanbaru, 20 August 2024 – Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) University of Riau (Unri) together with PT. The Pertamina International RU II Sungai Pakning Refinery successfully held an international webinar with the theme "Local Action, Global Impact: Sustainable Energy and Climate Change Towards a Renewable Energy-Based Future". The activity that took place today was attended by almost 500 participants from various circles.

In his speech, the Dean of FISIP Unri, Dr. Meyzi Heriyanto, S.Sos., M.Sc., said, "This international webinar is a concrete step for FISIP Unri in contributing to global efforts to overcome climate change. We all have an important role in maintaining environmental sustainability. Through collaboration with PT. "We hope that we can inspire more parties to take part in real action towards sustainable energy."

This international webinar presents speakers who are competent in their fields. Rudi Hartono, SMOM PT. Pertamina International Refinery RU II Sei Pakning, explained Pertamina's various initiatives in developing renewable energy and energy efficiency in the operational area. “Pertamina is committed to continuing to innovate and look for environmentally friendly energy solutions. "Collaboration with academics like what we are doing today is very important to achieve this goal," said Rudi.

Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Seo Ta Wee from Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia, shares Malaysia's experience in the energy transition. “Malaysia has made significant progress in the development of renewable energy. However, there are still many challenges to overcome. "One of them is the availability of competent human resources in the field of renewable energy," he said.

Prof. Dr. Almasdi Syahza from the University of Riau, as an expert in rural economics, highlighted the importance of involving the community in sustainable energy programs. “Communities at the local level have a very strategic role in supporting the energy transition. "Therefore, there is a need for an appropriate community empowerment program," he explained.

Dr. Dadang Mashur, S.Sos., M.Sc., as Chief Executive said that this event is a series of activities from the 2nd International Energy Policy (2nd ISEEP) which will be held on October 24 2024 in Pekanbaru as a form of collaboration between the University's Faculty of Social and Political Sciences Riau and PT. Pertamina International RU II Sungai Pakning with the aim of being an adaptation and mitigation step in reducing the impact of climate change, increasing understanding and exchanging information regarding the latest developments in the field of science and technology and encouraging international cooperation in an effort to achieve key performance indicators for higher education.
