The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) at Universitas Riau successfully held the 2nd International Symposium on Environmental and Energy Policy (ISEEP) with the theme "Sustainable Improvement Coastal Areas" at Prime Park Hotel, Pekanbaru. The symposium was attended by academics, researchers, and practitioners from various countries, including Indonesia, Malaysia, Australia, the United States, and Iran, focusing on environmental and energy policies, particularly in the context of coastal area management.

The 2nd ISEEP was officially opened by the Rector of Universitas Riau, represented by Vice Rector for Planning, Cooperation, and Information Systems, Dr. Ir. Sofyan Husein Siregar, M.Phil. He expressed his appreciation for the organization of this international symposium. "Universitas Riau is committed to supporting research and scientific discussions relevant to global environmental challenges, especially in coastal areas, which are an important part of the Riau region. This symposium is expected to be an effective platform for formulating sustainable policies for coastal and energy management," said Dr. Sofyan.

Meanwhile, the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs of FISIP Universitas Riau, Dr. Auradian Marta, S.Sos., M.Si., emphasized the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration in facing increasingly complex environmental challenges. "As part of an educational institution, we have a great responsibility to prepare a generation that is aware of the importance of maintaining environmental sustainability, especially in coastal areas that are vulnerable to climate change and natural resource exploitation," explained Dr. Auradian.

The Chairperson of the 2nd ISEEP, Dr. Dadang Mashur, S.Sos., M.Si., explained that the purpose of this symposium is to bring together academics, practitioners, and stakeholders to share the latest research, ideas, and solutions related to coastal and energy management. "We hope that through this symposium, closer cooperation can be established between scientists and stakeholders in formulating sustainable policies," said Dr. Dadang.

The 2nd ISEEP was attended by the Head of Bappeda Bengkalis, the Manager of PT. Kilang Pertamina Internasional RU II Sungai Pakning, Jr. Officer II Comrel & CSR PT. Kilang Pertamina RU II Sungai Pakning, the Head of LPPM Universitas Riau, Deans at Universitas Riau, Department Heads, Program Coordinators, and the Head of the Environmental Laboratory at FISIP Universitas Riau.

Keynote speakers at the 2nd ISEEP presented various research findings and case studies from several countries, particularly in coastal areas, including Dr. Meyzi Heriyanto, S.Sos., M.Si, Dean of FISIP Universitas Riau, Indonesia, Associate Professor Dr. Chan Kim Ling from University Kebangsaan Malaysia, Malaysia, David W. Brown, Ph.D., Principal of Brown Brothers Energy and Environmental from the United States, and Dr. Anna Sanders from the University of Melbourne, Australia.

Interactive discussions between participants and speakers were one of the key elements of this event, skillfully moderated by Irwan Iskandar, S.IP., M.A., Secretary of the International Relations Department of FISIP. The results of these discussions are expected to produce recommendations that can serve as references for future policy-making.

The 2nd ISEEP received 45 research manuscripts and literature reviews, which were selected by a team of reviewers and then presented and discussed in parallel sessions, held both offline and in hybrid format. These papers will be published in Scopus-indexed proceedings. Researchers from seven countries participated in these parallel sessions.

The success of the 2nd ISEEP was made possible through collaboration with partners, PT. Kilang Pertamina Internasional RU II Sungai Pakning, and LPPM Universitas Riau. It is hoped that FISIP Universitas Riau will continue to play an active role in the development of knowledge that benefits the wider community, particularly in addressing the challenges of global environmental change.
